As a student employee, navigating finding a job and getting hired can be confusing. Below are a few tips and pointers that should help with the process. 

 Help, I'm looking for student employment!  

  • Make sure your resume is up to date
  • Determine which jobs you are eligible for:
    • Only students with financial aid award letters indicating an award for Federal Work Study are eligible for Federal Work Study positions
    • Only graduate level students are eligible for Graduate Assistantships
    • All students are eligible for regular student employment positions
  • 搜索 for positions that interest you on Jobs for Jaguars/Handshake
  • Put together a cover letter tailored to each position you’d like to apply for
  • 应用 to jobs, make sure to include all required documents (resume, cover letter, course schedule, financial aid award letter, 等.)
  • Respond promptly to email or phone communication from hiring department
  • If you are asked to interview, the following tips 可以帮助:
    • Show up a couple minutes early
    • Conduct yourself in a professional manner
    • Bring a copy of your resume
    • If the interview is being conducted via Zoom/WebEx, sit in a well-lit area with your camera on  

 I got the job, now what?

  • After accepting your offer, visit Human 资源 in room C1360 to complete your new hire paperwork
  • 请参阅 list of acceptable Form I-9 documents required in order to complete your new hire paperwork
  • If you believe you have already completed your paperwork, please email 人力资源 确认
  • If you are an international student that has never worked in the United States, please review the Office of International 服务 网页 obtaining a Social Security Number
  • Set up your direct deposit information in Self-Service (navigate to Online 服务 under Students, Employee Profile, then Banking Information)
    • The first check is typically mailed to your home address, so please ensure your address is up to date as well
  • Your supervisor will inform you when you may 开始工作
  • You should receive a copy of your contract on 第一天上班

  • Familiarize yourself with your position’s duties 和期望
  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions
  • Arrive on time and check in with your supervisor
  • If you’re going to be late, or can’t make it in for your shift, give your supervisor ample notice
  • Treat student employment like a stepping stone to your career, you never know where these connections may lead you

 How and when do I get paid?

  • All regular student workers and federal work study student workers must use Kronos to punch in and out for every shift and lunch 打破
  • Graduate Assistants use PDF timesheets to log hours
  • All GSU employees are paid two times a 月
    • 15th 本月的
    • 最后一天(28日th, 30th, 31st(本月)
  • Pay periods are as follows:
    • 1st 通过15th of 这个月
    • 16th through the last day of the 月
  • If your contract begins any time between the 1st 这15个th, your first paycheck will be at the end 本月的
  • If your contract begins any time between the 16th and the last day 本月的, your first paycheck will be on the 15th of the following 月
  • Payroll deadlines for submitting timesheets are generally end of day, on the last day of the pay period

 What else do I need to know?

  • Typically student employees can only work one contract per semester
  • Student employees that work over the summer (May 16th 到8月15日th) but are not enrolled in classes will be required to pay taxes on their income
  • Be sure to take a lunch 打破 if you are working 7.每天5小时
  • Freshman can only work 20 hours per pay period (see 以上工资期)
  • Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate-level student employees can work up to 40 hours per pay period (see 以上工资期)
